Dr. Richard Price of Dalhousie University, one of dentistry's most respected curing light researchers, tested the Woodpecker X-Star in his laboratory and compared it with the Ultradent VALO® X. He found that the X-Star:
- Matches the VALO X in standard mode: about 1,083 mW/cm² for the X-Star vs. 1,084 mW/cm² for the VALO X.
- Delivers more power in its highest mode: about 2,963 mW vs. 2,750 mW.
- Meets the ISO 10650 standard, with output within about 10% of Woodpecker's specifications.
- Has a beam profile very comparable to, if not slightly better than, the VALO X, with more evenly distributed violet light.
- Performs as well or better over distance than the VALO X.
